The GuffoChallenges are a 2-weeks-long Fancade event created and hosted by Guffo (TonoCia0n3) on Discord. Initially conceived as a collaborative game jam, it's become a solo event, in which a character (found in an editable kit on Fancade) is given to the participants, who then have to make and submit a game involving said character model. Editions last 2 weeks by default, but can be extended by 2 more weeks, which happens quite often.

You can join the event in this server and you can visit the official GuffoChallenges website to learn more about the event and to check out every past submission!

History

The GuffoChallenges (or GCs) have a pretty long and intricate background.

It all started in 2021, when on November 9th the first server led by Guffo (originally called "Fancade with Guffo" and then renamed to "Guffo Garden") was created. As the server grew in size, new activities were introduced for the members, including a relatively short series of server events related to Fancade called "GuffoChallenges", more commonly referred to as just "Challenges". These were simple Fancade tasks given to the members, usually about making certain scripts and voxel-arts or reaching highscores in games. In the following months (mostly in the second half of 2021) many aspects of the event went through changes, which ultimately brought the GCs to their current version. During that time, the transition from the now-archived "Guffo Garden" to the new server called "GuffoChallenges" was being planned out. On 30/10/2022, the latter was officially opened, around the 8th edition of the new series.

After the 12th (and last) edition of the beginning series, the counter was reset and the new series began. The little Challenges were changing to something greater: members had to make a game together in collaboration under a set theme. The event was renamed "Collab Challenges", and it was a very ambituous idea, which lasted for only a couple of editions (up until edition 5b of the new series).

From the following edition on, it was decided to group the members in teams and have each make their own game. That was still difficult to manage, and so the Collab Challenges changed again soon after: the participants chose one person to create a duo with, instead of 4 people teams like before, and the time limit was reduced to the current 2 weeks for the first time. All the collab and duo games that were submitted back then are still published under the official GuffoChallenges account on Fancade, before it was eventually turned into the account on which kits are published.

With this last iteration (on the 9th edition of the new and current series), the event version closest to the present one can be spotted: the Collab Challenges were over and soon the old name "GuffoChallenges" came back, overtaking all the others. The GCs kept the 2-week-long time limit, but they simply became solo game-jams due to the unavoidable management issues. All the plans that seemed fine at first glance had to be rewritten and restrained, but these limitation brought to life a new and interesting idea, which then stayed in the current edition, which required a complete change to the main gimmick of the event: it was decided that the themes had to be put in kits, published and easily accessible to everyone on Fancade, to then let the participants make games based on the block they'd find in said kits. The effects of this last drastic modification were surprisingly positive: the event continued with that format, which has demonstrated to be infinitely more stable than any other before it.

From the 29th edition on, twenty editions after the first proper GC, member-made themes were allowed to be featured in the actual events. For the rest, the rules were rewritten more cleanly, featuring all the four special yearly events that have been introduced in the format. As for the Discord server, new reward roles were added and the new version of Sleepy Guffo, the community's bot (kindly remade and improved by Telcaum) was introduced to ease submitting, sending messages, evaluating games and redistributing roles.

In May 1, 2025, GuffoChallenges went on a hiatus, when GC40 ended as the worst performing edition to that date. After two months and a half, in July 16 2025, the event was resumed and GC41 introduced other changes. Firstly, the editions would no longer be consecutive, but there would be a pause of two weeks in-between editions. Secondly, GC Bonuses were introduced as optional additional restrictions, in order to increase the prizes for the participants that followed them.

GuffoChallenges and Fancade

On September 28 2023, the GuffoChallenges server got more community recognition as the roles "FanEvent Coordinator" and "FanEvent Winner" were suggested and then introduced in Fancade's official Discord server. There, Guffo managed to get the coordinator role and with that the opportunity to write in the newly-opened "#fan-events". New theme announcements and results are somewhat regularly published in that channel for all the community to see. Lastly, the event gained the ability to reward its participants with actual in-game prizes, like gems and short ad-free periods.
