History

2017-2020: Early access

2020-present: Release

The game was published on Google Play and App Store on April 29, 2020. Shortly, the game was featured on stores, firstly by App Store not a day after, then Google Play around May 8, 2020. A month later, on June, Google Play issued another feature as game of the month in 14 regions:

Fancade is where “fans” and the “arcade” meet, it’s a celebration of retro arcade games where fun is the primary goal. “Quest” mode offers a wide variety of games, from a physics-based stunt car to spatial puzzles involving a stretchy cat, plus a spot of golf on the side. Fancade’s real genius can be found in its “Arcade” mode, filled with user-generated content. If a near-limitless library of games doesn’t appeal, you can build and share your own experiences thanks to incredibly powerful game creation and sharing tools.

Martin Magni reported at least 10,000 published games on May 26, 2020.

Version 1.1.2 was released on Android on July 18, 2020, adding 5 new worlds. The iOS version was released ten days later with a compromise: users are restricted to only select games, possibly due to App Store guidelines on user-generated content. Despite this problem, it was featured again as game of the day on August 17, 2020.

Continuous updates added 5 new worlds. Version 1.2.6 included an in-built search function and advanced debugging for inspecting variables.

The game won Google Play Awards as Best Innovative (archive) on November 18, 2020.

On December 10, 2020, Fancade 1.4.1 was released with 9 new script blocks.

Fancade was a double nominee in Nordic Game Awards on 2021.

The Fancade team doubled on May 20, 2021, with Per Nyblom and Mathias Elgaard. The following week, on June 2, 2021, Fancade 1.6 was pushed to beta users, allowing shop capability in games through earning coins. Gems replaced the stagnant Fangold and was now the in-game currency. Creators could earn half the gems through their shop. This is the first instance since Fancade 1.0 where the icon was switched from Odd Bot to Dino Bros. Its user interface was refurbished from a pixelated look to a rounded appearance. Game losses or wins were captioned. The update was finally released to public, a week and a day later.

On September 22, 2021, Fancade for PC was released. One of its features was embedding the game, thereby letting creators publish their works into other platforms such as itch.io. Martin Magni utilised this to participate in the 49th Ludum Dare that begun October 1, 2021 until October 4, with a reimagining of a quest game Noodle, called Snek Left.

Fancade 1.7.4 was released on October 18, 2021. Daily challenges was incorporated into Arcade, allowing casuals to earn gems through playing its first levels.
