GuffoChallenges are a 2-weeks-long Fancade event created by Guffo (TonoCia0n3). Originally started as a collaborative game jam, it is currently a solo game jam. In the event, a character (which can be found in an editable kit on Fancade) is given to the participants, who then have to make and submit a game involving said character model. Editions usually last 2 weeks, but they can be extended if not enough projects are completed within the deadline.

## History

The GuffoChallenges (or GCs) were first hosted on the Discord server named "Guffo Garden" (now archived), where the event was called "Collab Challenges" and was a side activity in that server mostly deditcated to casual talk. That was up until the 6th edition: after that, participants were given a theme to follow instead, and they had to collaborate with other people, right upto the 8th edition, when it got its own separate server called simply "GuffoChallenges", up and running to this day, using the current event structure.

As of now, participation is under [[this server|https://discord.gg/7TAQVsZ9EU]]. Submissions are under the channel #submissions (but note one needs a role in order to participate; you can get it in #Channels and Roles).

The GuffoChallenges (or GCs) have a pretty long and intricate background.

It all started in 2021, when on November 9th the first server led by Guffo (originally called "Fancade with Guffo" and then renamed to "Guffo Garden") was created. As the server grew in size, new activities were introduced for the members, including a relatively short series of server events related to Fancade called "GuffoChallenges", more commonly referred to as just "Challenges". These were simple Fancade tasks given to the members, usually about making certain scripts and voxel-arts or reaching highscores in games. In the following period (mostly in the second half of 2021), many modifications happened, which ultimately led to the current version of the GCs. During that time, the transition to the now-archived "Guffo Garden" to the new server called "GuffoChallenges" was being planned out. On 01/11/2022, the new server was officially opened, around the 8th edition of the event.

In months, the little Challenges changed to something bigger: members, in collaboration with eachother, had to make a game together under a theme. The event was renamed "Collab Challenges", and it was a very ambituous turn of events which lasted for only a couple of editions (until 12th edition) and the counter was resetted, starting the new one as Collab Challenge n.1.
11
Then, on the new 6th edition, it was decided to split the members in teams, and have each make their own game. That was still difficult to manage, and so the Collab Challenges changed again soon after: the participants were now split in duos, and the time limit was reduced to the current 2 weeks.

13
With this last alteration (on the new 9th edition), the event version closest to the present one can be spotted: the Collab Challenges were over and soon the old name "GuffoChallenges" overtook the others. The GCs kept the 2-week-long time limit, but became solo game-jams. The themes were now put in kits accessible to everyone on Fancade and the task was to make games based on the block given in said kits. The event continued on that very stable format and didn't change a lot.

On 28/09/2023 the server got more community recognition as the roles "FanEvent Coordinator" and "FanEvent Winner" were suggested and then introduced in the Fancade Discord server. Guffo managed to get his coordinator role, and with that the opportunity to write in the newly-opened "fan-events" channel about the GCs, with their themes and results.
